KXL Falsely Accused of Rumor Suggesting Antifa-BLM Were Shooting at Firefighters

“KXL News Director Jim Ferretti said KXL News never reported firefighters battling Oregon’s wildfires being shot at.”

Misinformation has reared its ugly head yet again. This time in Portland, Oregon.

According to Politifact, KXL Radio was accused by a Facebook poster of reporting that firefighters were being shot at by suspected Antifa and BLM members. The Facebook post was shared thousands of times before being flagged by the social media company in an attempt to reduce the spread of fake news.

KXL’s news director Jim Ferretti initially asked the user to delete the post, stating “At no time did KXL News report what is stated above.” The station’s popular talk show host Lars Larson did discuss Black Lives Matter and Antifa on the air, mentioning that people believe a lot of what they read on the internet about activists intentionally setting fires. He also asked the audience to vote on a Twitter poll to determine if they believed in a tie between northwest wildfire arson and BLM/Antifa groups.

“At this point I don’t have the evidence to say yes to that one,” Larson commented. He added “I know that disappoints a lot of you, but I believe in an evidence-based show. But you can answer the poll anyway you like.”

Politifact checked into the story and spoke further with Ferretti about the situation. He told the site “I was made aware of the Facebook post on Saturday. I immediately responded from my personal Facebook account that the post is 100% false. At no time has KXL News reported that firefighters battling Oregon’s wildfires have been shot at by anyone.”

Sean Hannity: ‘I Don’t Want to Be a Hall Monitor’ During DeSantis/Newsom Debate

Fox News host Sean Hannity is set to moderate a debate between Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) Thursday, and he says he won’t be part of the story Friday morning.

During The Sean Hannity Show Tuesday, the longtime syndicated radio host said he has vowed to not overstep his duties as a moderator, despite what Newsom has told others.

“I’ve been working very hard on preparing for this debate and just laying out the topics and letting them go at it,” Hannity said. “I’m not going to be debating — Gavin has been saying ‘Two on one’, but nope. I’m just bringing up the topics.

“I’m not going to be debating. I will bring up the topic, try and make the question short, and let them get into it. If it warrants another follow-up, it warrants another follow-up…and the format, I think, is fair,” Hannity continued. “I told both sides I’m going to allow some breathing room. I don’t want to be a hall monitor. I really don’t. I don’t feel like Chris Wallace here.”

Fox News will present DeSantis vs. Newsom: The Great Red vs. Blue State Debate from 9-10:30 PM ET on Thursday. The debate will also be simulcast on FOX News Radio. After the debate, Hannity will provide a live reaction with a panel of guests from 10:30 to 11:00 PM/ET.

In a post to X, Olbermann directly attributed his departure from the platform to the meme shared by Musk.

Earlier this week, X owner Elon Musk shared a meme that questioned whether or not “PizzaGate” — the widely debunked conspiracy theory that claimed prominent political figures were operating a child sex operation out of the basement of a Washington D.C. pizza parlor — was real. In response, Keith Olbermann has announced his plans to depart the platform, which drew the ire of many conservative pundits.

In a post to X, Olbermann directly attributed his departure from the platform to the meme shared by Musk.

“After Musk’s endorsement of the QAnon Pizzagate conspiracy theory, I won’t be posting here any more,” Olbermann wrote. “There are a couple of prescheduled promos for the Podcast, the last runs ~10PM I’m on the other socials under my name or some variation of Countdown With KO/Keith Olbermann.”

He went on to call Musk “an antisemite and a moron who will eat the latest shit one of his sycophants hands him”. He continued by noting that he no longer views the platform as “an effective means of promotion”, sharing that in a recent episode of his Countdown with Keith Olbermann podcast that featured 125,000 views or downloads, only 22 total came from X.

After the declaration, several conservative media members and content creators mocked Olbermann for his stance.
