Family was the prevailing theme for the first hour of The Joe Piscopo Show Monday morning on 790 AM New York. During that slot Piscopo, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, related stories of Thanksgiving visits with his brother and elderly mother, adding that he felt listeners to his program and all the local New York radio stations were family.

“We are all in this together,” Piscopo said. “New York radio and our listeners are stronger than ever. I don’t see us as competing with each other. We are one big family together. My bosses and their bosses (at other stations) do a great job.”

Piscopo tells a story from his own Thanksgiving celebration that illustrates how families stay strong through difficult circumstances.

“My mother is elderly and while I believe we should reopen New York and start living our normal lives again, this virus is an insidious thing,” Piscopo said. “We have to be careful. I didn’t hug her even though I wanted to. We all sat out on the porch and she sat on the other side of the screen door. She had boxed turkey dinners that she had made for all the children and grandchildren individually. My bother Kevin, he made me a baked ZITI. It was the best Thanksgiving I have ever had. Hanukkah and Christmas are coming up and I hope you are as excited about them as I am.”

Piscopo also urges listeners not to let political differences come between family and friends during the holidays.

“Most of my family and friends are liberal democrats, not socialists, but just the old school liberal democrats,” he said. “I understand why because I used to be one myself. My grandparents came to this country not knowing a word of English and always voted Democrat because they were one of us and would look out for us. I used to think the same way. I used to make fun of Ronald Reagan when I was on Saturday Night Live (1980-1984). Then I met him and realized this is a smart guy who knows what he is doing. My democratic family and friends are good people. They just haven’t seen the light like I have.”

Piccolo adds that while he understands why some people voted Democratic, he is still a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump.

“People ask me all the time why I still talk about the election because it’s over now,” he said. “It’s not over. This election was rigged and we knew it was going to be. It could go all the way to the Supreme Court. I don’t know if we will get it done by December 14th (the day the Electoral College votes), but I will keep talking about it. If you are listening right now, you understand what’s going on. You are a patriot. I feel like you  are part of my family and I love each and every one of you.”
