ABC News Studios is bringing a slate of new projects as it launches three feature documentaries and 15 series and specials in production, per Deadline.

The initiative will see ABC News Studios produce more than 100 hours of content for platforms such as ABC, Hulu, Disney+, National Geographic, and others in 2022.

Reena Mehta, the senior vice president of streaming and digital content, and Mike Kelley, the vice president and ABC News Studios lead, will lead the creative and business direction of the venture.

“We’ve been creating longform for quite a while, but we are really formalizing it under the ABC News umbrella,” Mehta said. “We want to also tell diverse untold stories.”

“Because we also manage podcasts and have close relationships with Disney, Hulu, NatGeo, and our internal content partners, we can really fuel IP across a lot of these lanes and have been really empowered to do that from a monetary investment perspective as well as a staffing perspective.”

Kelley stated that the goal is to have multiple monthly launches across platforms.

“One of the strengths that we have as being part of ABC News is that we are generating new IP every minute of every day. And so we’re kind of constantly in communication with other departments within the news division, to talk about those new ideas that can turn into narrative programming,” Kelley said.

“We as a studio are really focused, kind of not on the traditional news side, but on turning those into long form narrative documentary style stories that even lean a little bit more into the kind of entertainment consumption as opposed to news consumption.”

ABC News Studios already have various projects ready for a debut, including content from George Stephanopoulos and Whoopi Goldberg lending her voice as a narrator.

Fox Weather’s Nick Kosir collaborated with the Tunnel to Towers for their annual 5K Run & Walk through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to help raise money for the foundation on Sept. 24.

The event is a tribute to Stephen Siller’s last walk from the Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. Furthermore, it honors the memory of the 343 FDNY firefighters, law enforcement officers, and numerous civilians who perished on September 11, 2001.

Kosir used the power of social media to generate more funds for the foundation while participating in the rain himself. He fronted the Tunnel to Towers Do Good Dance Challenge on Sunday at the race for FOX Weather.

Situated at the race’s finish line, he encouraged his followers on social media to participate in the “Never Forget Dance Challenge” to help raise money for Tunnel to Towers.

FOX Corp. will also match $2 for every $1 donation made through the link Kosir is utilizing, which has now surpassed $250,000. He also shared this on his social media and used the hashtag #T2TDOGOODDANCE during his hits on FOX Weather. He has also been posting videos from his dance challenge on his Instagram.

CNN has announced a pair of promotions for new executives Abigail Crutchfield and Pallavi Reddy.

Crutchfield has been elevated to Vice President of D.C. Programming and Special Events Programming. Previously, she had worked as the network’s executive producer for State of the Union with both Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. She has also managed the network’s coverage of the January 6th hearings, arrests and arraignments of former President Donald Trump, and the coronation of King Charles III.

Pallavi Reddy has been promoted to Vice President of New Media at CNN. The new media team at the network oversees data visualization, extended reality, and technological advancements in storytelling. The group created the “Magic Wall” used in various election coverages that won a Technology and Engineering Emmy in 2020. Reddy began her tenure at the network as a Production Assistant for Reliable Sources before being elevated to field producer during the 2016 presidential race.

“Please join me in congratulating Abigail and Pallavi,” CNN U.S. Programming executive Eric Sherling told staffers in a memo. “Their roles will be crucial in supporting CNN’s best-in-class political and election coverage of the 2024 race and beyond.”

Brian Stelter: Jesse Watters Doesn’t Wade into the Fringe Like Tucker Carlson

“Tucker in 2023 was not the character that he was in 2017. He became unglued.”

It’s been a couple of months since Jesse Watters took over the 8:00 p.m. ET slot at Fox News. The network announced in April that Tucker Carlson was leaving the media company; it took a while to find his replacement, which eventually became Watters.

Former CNN media reporter Brian Stelter recently appeared on an episode of Pod Save America and assessed how Watters is filling that time slot Carlson left behind.

While Stelter might not like what is said on Watters’ show, he states that the Fox News host doesn’t steer away from reality.

“You look at what Jesse Watters does now in Tucker Carlson’s old time slot,” Stelter told host Jon Favreau. “A lot of it is repulsive, in my view, but it is not quite as far off, as far into the fringe land, as far into the wilderness as Tucker was. I think you know what I mean. I mean, Tucker in 2023, was not the character that he was in 2017. He became unglued.”

Carlson’s exit and Watters’ appointment to the primetime slot might have been the prelude to the changes coming toward Fox News’ way. Last month, Rupert Murdoch announced that he was stepping down from his role leading Fox Corp. and News Corp. and will hand the reins to his son, Lachlan.

“I have decided to transition to the role of Chairman Emeritus at Fox and News,” Murdoch said. “The time is right for me to take on different roles, knowing that we have truly talented teams and a passionate, principled leader.”
