Despite the change in leadership with Chris Licht taking over as CEO of CNN, the network reportedly continues to struggle with ratings.
The New York Post reports that CNN has fallen even further behind perennial leader Fox News and the slightly rebuilt MSNBC.
“CNN is in a bad place. The ratings are down really dramatically year over year,” a media executive told The Post. “I’m not sure the company understands how hard it is [to dig out].”
“The turnaround he had to do was pretty incredible,” a CNN insider added. Licht “knows what he’s doing,” the source stated that the former executive producer of CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “CBS This Morning” has his “work cut out for him.”
One of Licht’s significant assignments is to name a host for the 9 p.m. hour, which Chris Cuomo held before he was ousted last year. Also, Cuomo has already found a new home with News Nation and will debut in October.
MSNBC, which has recently changed its primetime lineup with Alex Wagner taking over for Rachel Maddow in the 9 p.m. slot Tuesday through Friday, is reportedly crushing CNN in the ratings.
