There’s plenty of speculation as to whether former president Donald Trump will be running for a return to The White House in 2024. However, a CNN analyst is ripping the media for following a potential announcement.

New York Times correspondent and CNN analyst Maggie Haberman tore into the media for being duped into covering Trump’s announcements teasing coming announcements of his 2024 presidential run.

“It’s sort of incredible how good he is at getting everybody to follow along with him when he does this game of I’m thinking of doing it,” Haberman said on “CNN This Morning” (h/t Mediaite).

“We all know what he’s talking about. We all know what’s coming. I’m personally of the view that it’s more interesting when he actually does something because we will cover it … There’s legitimate reasons to cover it. I just don’t know that this needs to be that much of a focus.”

Trump stated he has a “very big announcement” on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach during a rally in Ohio.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper came to the network’s defense during an interview with Howard Stern. The radio host noted that news outlets such as CNN are obsessed with former President Donald Trump.

“It seems to me that Trump not only has changed our world but he’s changed the entire news business,” Stern said.

“It’s almost like we’re so addicted to hearing about him that if you don’t do a Trump story on your show, people aren’t that interested. You just want to hear, ‘Is Trump in trouble?’ It’s like an obsession throughout the country.”

Cooper pushed back at Stern’s claim, stating that CNN has focused on various other news stories and not on anything Trump-related, despite the former commander-in-chief announcing his bid for president in 2024 last year.

“I would argue in the last, you know, couple of years when he wasn’t running for president, he wasn’t the focus [at CNN],” Cooper told Stern.

“We weren’t covering him as much, if at all, once he left office. And frankly, our Ukraine war coverage, I mean, I left, you know after my second son was born, I left a week later to go to Ukraine for, you know, I don’t know, two or three weeks or something.”

Kasie Hunt will appear more often on viewers’ television screens as she will anchor State of the Race on CNN International, which returns to the network’s schedule on Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET.

State of the Race is a weekday show that runs for an hour and delivers a daily update on the status of the upcoming 2024 US presidential election. The show focuses on breaking news, driving essential conversations, and seeking to cut through partisan noise.

“Our mission here is to go into the heart of the stories shaping the election by connecting our viewers with the sharpest analysts, the most connected pollsters and campaign insiders, and the big names making the news,” Hunt said.

“I’m excited to help viewers better understand the unique aspects of the U.S. political system, including all those caucuses, primaries, conventions, and other quirks impacting the race. Most importantly, we’ll lay out what matters and why for audiences across America and around the world.”

Hunt is set to host another show on CNN, marking her second appearance as a host on the network. She has the hosting duties for CNN U.S.’ early morning news show, Early Start, which, according to Variety, will receive a new name in the future.

Hunt joined CNN from NBC News in August 2021, and before arriving at the network, she served as NBC News’ Capitol Hill correspondent and host of MSNBC’s weekday 5 a.m. hour Way Too Early.
