Franklin News Foundation Names Jerry Lyles VP of Syndication

Jerry Lyles, an industry leader with experience spanning four decades has joined the Franklin News Foundation as the organization’s first vice president of syndication and distribution.

Lyles has spend is career helping newspapers, radio, TV, and news media sites grow and expand their print and digital offerings. Lyles is now responsible for expanding Franklin News Foundation’s partnerships with media partners.

Franklin News Foundation President Chris Krug said, “Franklin has experienced significant growth over the past three years… Our team has built dozens of relationships across all platforms, and we are certain that having Jerry in this role will ensure we are able to deliver the highest level of service to our existing and new partners.”

Lyles will have responsibility over external relations for The Center Square newswire, Illinois Radio Network, and America’s Talking Network, all of which are positioned for significant growth over the coming years. Lyles has gained experience through is work for various media outlets, including Publishing Group of America, Athlon Sports, Parade Magazine, Dobie Media, TownNews (now Blox Media), AHM Publishing, and most recently, The Daily Wire.

“I have admired the service-oriented approach that Jerry took when we worked together in the newspaper industry,” said Krug. “Our expansion of America’s Talking Network podcasts to terrestrial radio has also occurred ahead of schedule.”

Liberty Media Proposes Combining With SiriusXM to Form ‘New SiriusXM’

Liberty Media has proposed combining with SiriusXM. The group, which also owns controlling interest in the Atlanta Braves and Formula One Racing, has proposed forming a “new, consolidated public company” with the satellite radio giant.

According to the Liberty Media website, the company already owns 83% of SiriusXM. Combining the to companies would give Liberty full control of both SiriusXM and Pandora.

If a deal were to close, minority shareholders would own 16% of SiriusXM. Liberty proposes the other 84% would belong to holders of LSXM stock. 

“Liberty’s proposal rationalizes the dual corporate structure between LSXM and SiriusXM and provides value to all shareholders with a more flexible and attractive currency in New SiriusXM,” Liberty president and CEO Greg Maffei said. “SiriusXM minority shareholders will also benefit from enhanced trading dynamics, including increased liquidity and likelihood of future index inclusion.”

SiriusXM issued a statement acknowledging the proposal. The company had no recommendation to shareholders at this time.

“There can be no assurance that the proposal, or any other transaction, will be completed or, if so, as to the terms and conditions of any such transaction,” the statement says.

Wunderman Thompson Rolls Out New AI Advertisement Tool

Spotify isn’t the only media company announcing artificial intelligence news, as Wunderman Thompson has revealed a new AI testing tool for advertising and other brand assets.

Reveal is an in-house platform that measures audience attention and emotional responses to brand content in real-world environments on PCs and phones. 

The platform used volunteer panels to observe unconscious emotional responses through reactions, micro-expressions, and changes in facial muscle movement of the target audience participants.

“[Reveal] is a game changer for creative testing,” David Lloyd, managing director of data, EMEA at Wunderman Thompson, said. 

“Not only because it allows brands to test a larger audience faster and more cost-effectively than traditional methods, but it also delivers a far richer understanding of how to improve the creative performance of branded content based on the data and insights collected.”  

The agency claims that brands can now track viewers’ attention, immersion, and emotional connections second-by-second with the new tool. Additionally, brands can experiment with various video edits, headlines, images, and copy to determine the most effective approach for their target audience.

Spotify Launches AI-Powered Voice Translation for Podcasts

Spotify has announced it will debut an AI-powered voice translator, with the hope of eventually putting podcasts into numerous different languages for listeners around the globe.

The company’s CEO — Daniel Ek — shared a video to X showcasing the Voice Translation capabilities from English to Spanish featuring podcasters Steven Bartlett and Lex Fridman.

The program is currently in its pilot stage, with the company utilizing podcasts from Dax Shepard, Bill Simmons, and Monica Padman in addition to Bartlett and Fridman to generate translations in Spanish, French, and German.

“By matching the creator’s own voice, Voice Translation gives listeners around the world the power to discover and be inspired by new podcasters in a more authentic way than ever before,” says Spotify Vice President of Personalization Ziad Sultan. “We believe that a thoughtful approach to AI can help build deeper connections between listeners and creators, a key component of Spotify’s mission to unlock the potential of human creativity.”

New episodes of podcasts hosted by the platform will begin hitting feeds today, with users being able to find them in a Voice Translations Hub on the company’s app.
