Mark Arum: I Signed Up For Threads to Make Sure No One Took My Name

Threads has seen expansive growth since it launched last week. 95.5 WSB host Mark Arum is one of at least 100 million users to sign up for the platform, but his reasoning might be different from others.

During The Mark Arum Show Monday, the Atlanta host said he had a very specific reason for joining the platform.

“So, I signed up for Threads, basically, just to make sure my name was available. I didn’t want anyone else to have it, because that’s happened to me,” Arum said. “It was TikTok. Someone had already grabbed my name. So I was like, ‘Well, let me jump over to Threads and get my name, but it was already reserved for me because I had that handle on Instagram.’ So it was a smart move by Zuckerberg just to migrate all those Instagram folks to automatically join Threads.”

Arum’s comments came during an interview with CBS News Radio legal analyst Thane Rosenbaum about potential litigation between Twitter and Threads. Arum asked Rosenbaum if either company was interested in taking the issue to court.

“They live for this, Mark,” said Rosenbaum. “Yes, this is all they do. We don’t read about it as much as they have, but their own internal house General Counsel, they’re always filing lawsuits against each other. All the major platforms are claiming some kind of breach.”

Former nationally syndicated radio host Mark Kaye has announced a new podcast and video simulcast project that is set to debut on Monday, July 15th.

Mark Kaye Saves the Republic will launch from the Republican National Convention next week in Milwaukee.

It is the first project from the former radio host since he departed Cox Media Group as a nationally syndicated host in the 12-3 PM ET timeslot as the company’s replacement for Rush Limbaugh. His program originated from 104.5 WOKV in Jacksonville before he exited the post in February of this year. He was replaced on most stations by The Erick Erickson Show, which originates from sister station 95.5 WSB in Atlanta.

In addition to an audio podcast, the program will also feature a video simulcast on YouTube. Currently, Kaye has more than 33,000 subscribers on his channel.

He added that since announcing his exit, he has been contacted by “truly conservative outlets” to continue his program, but said he won’t begin a new show until after the 2024 election.

After more than a decade, 710 KNUS weekend host Randy Corporan has hosted his last show for the Denver news/talk station.

According to the host, Salem Media Group informed him it would not be renewing his contract late last month.

Corporan told CompleteColorado.com that after the death of his wife in June of last year, he considered ending the show. However, he persisted, commuting an hour and a half one way to continue the show.

He added that since announcing his exit, he has been contacted by “truly conservative outlets” to continue his program, but said he won’t begin a new show until after the 2024 election.

“I want to get the start of my new life going and sort myself out,” he said. “And I want to take care of some personal problems that need to be dealt with.”

Randy Corporan is listed as one of the defendants — along with Salem Media Group, parent company to 710 KNUS — in a defamation lawsuit brought forth by Dominion Voting Systems over what the election machine company calls “false claims of fraud in the 2020 election.”
