Meet The Press host Chuck Todd went toe-to-toe with Sen. Ron Johnson Sunday over GOP lawmakers’ efforts to challenge certification of Electoral College votes.

“You made an allegation there was widespread fraud, you have failed to offer specific evidence of that widespread fraud, but you’re demanding an investigation on the grounds that there are allegations of widespread fraud. So essentially, you are the arsonist here. President Trump is the arsonist here,” Todd said to Johnson.

Johnson is one of a dozen Republican senators who plan to challenge the Electoral College certification on Wednesday.  “We are not acting to thwart the democratic process — we are acting to protect it,” Johnson said.

Todd claimed the president and his Republican allies are alleging voter fraud even as the courts have dismissed scores of lawsuits filed by Trump’s legal team. Todd told Johnson that he and his colleagues “don’t get to make these allegations that haven’t been proven true.”

The contentious nationally televised interview came to an end when he thanked Johnson for appearing because “only two of your colleagues had the guts to say yes this weekend about this conspiracy theory that you’re working on.”
